Have you ever just felt stuck? Have you ever had the thoughts: “I must be perfect”, “I am a bad person”, “I should have done something”, “I am a failure”, “I cannot have a healthy relationship”, “I’m not a good mom”? These are just a few of the negative beliefs we tell ourselves that can lead to depression, anxiety, and feeling unsatisfied with our path in life. Sometimes events we’ve experienced can lead to negative emotions, sensations, and irrational beliefs. These belief systems can become the lenses with which we view our world making it difficult to move forward from our past.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in trauma. My ideal client is someone who has experienced trauma from family of origin, relationships, different forms of abuse, complicated grief, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, as well as recent incidences such as car accidents or witnessing a traumatic event. I am specifically skilled in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders. I am a compassionate guide, dedicated toward empowering individuals to discover their paths in life and reach their fullest potential. I am interested in supporting individuals to find their way toward new insights, connections, growth, and change.
My sessions are extremely client centered. I strive to create a safe, unbiased environment that allow clients to be honest with themselves and identify their true wants and needs. I am very solution focused and seek to not just talk about the struggles clients are facing but help them to implement new skills to address issues directly. I provide an empathetic ear and a variety of therapeutic techniques to individualize each session. I am a seasoned EMDR II (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) clinician whom was trained via the EMDR Institute. Another current therapeutic passion of mine is Internal Family Systems a newer therapeutic modality that is on the cutting edge of treatment.
With a young child, a lot of my life outside of work consists of the current obsession- right now Lightning McQueen, and Toy Story. I enjoy time with my family and friends. I would almost always rather be outdoors than in although I do love a good book or Netflix binge on occasion. I truly love learning, value continuing education, and at the risk of sounding geeky would be a student for life if I could. An interesting fact about me is that I had a part time job as a clown/ costume character for about 10 years. Chances are at one point in time if you lived on Long Island and attended a child’s birthday party, I was the Elmo doing the hokey pokey!
